The Iron Gate of Transylvania Pass (DN68) sits at an altitude of 700 meters at the boundary between the Western and Southern Carpathians. The location holds exceptional historical significance — in antiquity, the western access route to Dacia’s capital, Sarmizegetusa, passed through here. Three battles took place here during the Dacian-Roman Wars. Today, the former rack railway route has been transformed into a tourist trail, part of Via Transilvanica.
