Transursoaia

1,324m 1R Huedin Albac 80km Mixed

The Transursoaia (DN1R), also known as the “Road of Seasons,” is a spectacular mountain road that traverses the Apuseni Natural Park over 80 kilometers, connecting the town of Huedin (Cluj County) to the village of Albac (Alba County). The route passes through picturesque settlements such as Beliș, Poiana Horea, Horea, and Mătișești, offering an authentic journey through the heart of the Apuseni Mountains.

The road’s highest point is the Ursoaia Pass (Șaua Ursoaia) at 1324 meters, located on the watershed between the Someșul Cald basin to the north and the Arieșul Mare basin to the south. The pass sits on the border between the Bihor Mountains and the Gilău Mountains. The drive offers sweeping views over dense coniferous forests, alpine meadows, and the traditional villages of the Țara Moților region.

The road is mostly paved but includes some gravel sections, particularly over the last 15 kilometers toward Albac. It is recommended for travel from May to October, as the road is usually impassable in winter due to heavy snow and avalanche risk.
